About Antidote
Our Story
Antidote Kitchen originally began back in 2015 when I was living in Port Macquarie, NSW. Passionate about eating and living a healthy, plant-based lifestyle at home, I was struggling with not being able to find healthy, vegetarian or vegan food available when eating out. And so I started a market stall selling fresh cold-pressed organic juices, ice teas, smoothies, and smoothie bowls. The concept and the following continued to grow until the time had come for it to develop into a brick and mortar shop in Wauchope, NSW in 2018.
The intention was to provide delicious, flavourful, health-conscious products, whilst using exclusively local farmers, suppliers and producers. Focusing heavily on quality, organic and sustainable practices, wholefood concepts and without ever advertising that it was a vegetarian or vegan menu. Customers came back for the unique flavours, textures and most importantly, how good they felt after eating at Antidote. The 2019-2020 fires, the pandemic, and the devastating 2021 floods were some of the regions toughest years. But we stuck to our foundations and continued to thrive, through the power of good food and community.
At the end of 2021, changes to the building meant we could no longer stay on the premise and the local's most loved cafe came to a close. So many locals reached out saddened they would no longer be able to enjoy the food that they had connected to. I knew I needed to share the recipes so that everyone could continue to find joy through our food, and so the next chapter of the Antidote journey has begun.
